What is a Shotgun Shotgun?
Shotgun Shotgun
First of all, rifles are called Shotguns in hunting in Turkey. Shotguns are divided into two general parts as rifled and non-rifled. We will examine smoothbore shotguns under this title. In 1875 the British Anson and Deeley invented the smoothbore shotgun closest to the current models. In the shotgun, instead of the bullet cores used in the infantry rifle, shelled bullets with various features, called hunting cartridges, are used. Various types of smoothbore shotguns are produced, as well as simple models, which are extremely modern and have high cartridge capacities.
Shotgun Shotguns:
Break Double (Side-Side Barrel System)
Break Double (Side-Side Barrel System)
Breaking doubles are double-barreled side-by-side. Generally, the standard ones have a half choke on the right and a full choke on the left. However, for different uses, the right barrel can be a shank and the left barrel can be half choke, or both barrels can be SkeetNo1 or Skeet No2 or Cylinder barrel according to the request and desire. The reason for the use and preference of the doublets is that they can be filled easily and in a short time due to the fact that they have two cartridges and side-by-side, and they are very suitable for the engagement. They are manufactured with ejector, single trigger-selector or standard double trigger.
Superposed (Upper-Bottom Barrel System)
Superposed (Upper-Bottom Barrel System)
They are double-barreled. Mostly, if the lower barrel is half choke, the upper muzzle is full choke. The reason for the preference of this type of shotguns is that it is suitable for those who are used to aiming through a single barrel. Superposers are produced in different barrel structures in accordance with desire and purpose, just like side-by-side doubles.
Single Shot Rifles
Single Shot Rifles
A single cartridge is used in this type of rifle. They are most recommended for novice hunters and hunters who have just started hunting, as they are inexpensive. Their barrels become SkeetNo.1 and Skeet No2.
Single Barrel Semi-Automatic Rifles
Single Barrel Semi-Automatic Rifles
The purpose of semi-automatic weapons is to carry out the processes related to the emptying of the cartridge and the filling of its place with a new one after the trigger is pulled, without the intervention of the user. In order to achieve this, two separate systems are used in this type of weapon, namely recoil and gas leakage. Regardless of the system, the logic in this type of weapon is based on the principle that the empty sleeve is thrown out, a new one is inserted into the barrel and the trigger system is set up automatically. The first action is by pulling back the crown and releasing the cartridge with the help of the hand and placing the cartridge on the bed. The chambers of semi-automatic smoothbore shotguns can accommodate up to 9+1 cartridges. The biggest handicap of this type of rifle is that they have a center of gravity that changes as the cartridge is used.

In pump action shotguns, the bolt mechanism that closes the chamber is connected to the fore-end. With the backward movement of the stock, this piece comes back and throws the empty sleeve out. Then, by pushing the stock forward, the new cartridge is placed in the chamber and the trigger mechanism is set. They are extremely reliable weapons that are very weak in arresting and are not cartridge selective. However, it is a disadvantage that the insignia is lost in every pump movement.
Although the smoothbore is mostly sold as Superpose, double breaking and semi-automatic, pumped models are preferred in military and police models. You can check out other smoothbore shotguns from the photos below.
